Parque da Cidade

Visit Parque da Cidade in Niterói for views across Guanabara Bay to Rio, woodland trails and two hang-gliding and paragliding ramps.

Parque da Cidade sits atop Viração Hill in Niterói, with wide views across Guanabara Bay, the city’s coastline and Rio de Janeiro. From the lookout, you can pick out landmarks including Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain. The park is free to enter and has woodland trails, two hang-gliding and paragliding ramps, a playground and a café. Go in the late afternoon for changing light over the bay, or set aside time for a walk among the trees before taking in the view.

Views from Viração Hill

Parque da Cidade is at the top of Viração Hill, 270 metres above sea level. Its lookout areas face the ocean and Niterói’s beaches, Guanabara Bay and Rio de Janeiro. From the hilltop, you can see landmarks including Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, Corcovado and Dois Irmãos Mountain, as well as the Rio-Niterói Bridge.

The park opened in 1976 and lies within an environmental preservation area. The views take in both the bay and the open coast, with hills and mountains across the surrounding landscape. Late afternoon brings sunset light over the city.

Trails, café and launch ramps

Woodland trails offer a way to explore beyond the lookout. The park also has a playground, a snack bar and a café surrounded by Atlantic Forest, where you can pause for a drink.

Two ramps serve hang gliding and paragliding. Watching a launch adds a different perspective to a visit, while taking off is an option for those seeking an aerial activity. The park itself has no entry charge, and free parking is available.
