Morro do Pasmado
Sight

Morro do Pasmado

Visit Morro do Pasmado in Botafogo for views of Sugarloaf Mountain, Botafogo Beach and Corcovado, plus the Holocaust Museum on select days.

Morro do Pasmado is a quiet viewpoint in Botafogo, in Rio de Janeiro. From the hill, you can see Botafogo Beach, Sugarloaf Mountain, Corcovado and Guanabara Bay, though vegetation partly screens the panorama. A short, steep climb leads to a shaded square with benches and a parking area. The Holocaust Museum is also here and is open Thursday to Sunday. Come for a calm pause among the trees, or combine the outlook with a museum visit.

A viewpoint shaped by reforestation

The hill’s history includes a major change to the area. A favela stood here until 1965, when it was removed and the hill was reforested.

Today, Morro do Pasmado sits within Parque Yitzhak Rabin. Trees and dense vegetation surround the lookout and shade the square, but they also partly block the view in places.

The Holocaust Museum

Rio’s Holocaust Memorial is located at the viewpoint. It is open Thursday to Sunday, and access may be limited or require an online reservation. Check the reservation arrangements before setting out if the museum is part of your visit.
