Praia da Lua
Beach

Moon Beach

Visit Moon Beach on the Rio Negro, a short boat ride from Manaus. Find out where to board and what to know about river levels, litter and food.

Moon Beach, or Praia da Lua, is a river beach on the right bank of the Rio Negro, about 23 kilometres from Manaus. A boat from Marina do Davi takes around 10 minutes to cross to its sandy shore, giving you a change of pace from the city. At low water, the beach can spread out across a broad stretch of sand. Cleanliness and facilities are inconsistent, so bring a bag for rubbish and consider packing snacks instead of relying on food there.

Getting to Moon Beach

Moon Beach
Moon Beach

Praia da Lua lies on the right bank of the Rio Negro, about 23 kilometres from Manaus. The usual departure point is Marina do Davi, near Ponta Negra. From there, the crossing takes around 10 minutes by boat or speedboat.

One visitor reported paying 10 reais per person and finding boats operating from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Treat those details as a past report, not a current fare or timetable. Check locally before you set off, especially to confirm when boats return from the beach.

River levels and the shoreline

Moon Beach
Moon Beach

The amount of exposed sand changes with the river level. During one November visit, when the water was low, the beach was especially broad. Ask locally about current conditions if the size of the shoreline matters to your plans.

Conditions on the beach can be uneven. Reports mention litter, including beer bottles, and dirty plastic chairs and tables. Food has also received mixed feedback, so bringing snacks and a bag for your rubbish can make the visit easier.
