Mui Ne is a coastal ward on the South China Sea in southern Vietnam, about 22 km from the centre of Phan Thiet. It is known mainly as a beach resort. Hundreds of resorts have gone up along a stretch of coast that was once thinly settled, and most of them sit on Mui Ne Beach, where the restaurants and shops cluster. The Red and White Sand Dunes nearby are the best-known sight and the main draw for outdoor activities such as dune trips.
Seafood is a big part of the local food. One dish is made from the butterfly lizard that lives on the dunes, served grilled, steamed, fried, raw or in porridge. The fishing village is best seen early in the morning, and Fairy Stream, which cuts through the sand, is another stop on the sightseeing circuit. The tourist season runs from December to April, when the weather suits a beach trip. Days are hot and dry for much of the year, averaging about 27 °C. The ward lies about 180 km southwest of Da Lat, so most visitors reach it from Phan Thiet or the south.

Is Mui Ne worth visiting?
Yes, if you want dunes, kitesurfing and a sunny coast without the crowds of the big resorts. Skip it if you want nightlife, old-town sights or a long list of attractions.
When is the best time to visit Mui Ne?
November to April, according to the tourism board. The Binh Thuan coast is arid compared with the rest of Vietnam and gets less rain even from May to October, but the wind is strongest in the dry months.
How do you get to Mui Ne from Ho Chi Minh City?
Take a bus or the train to Phan Thiet, then a taxi or Grab along the coast road. The rail line stops at Muong Man station outside Phan Thiet, so allow for that last leg.
Is Mui Ne good for beginners at kitesurfing?
It is the tourism board's pick for learning, with fairly consistent wind and waves. Use a school with safety equipment, and check your travel insurance covers kitesurfing before you book.
Can you visit Mui Ne and Da Lat together?
Yes. They are a few hours apart by car or shuttle van, so a beach-then-mountains loop works with a night each, or two in the one you want most.
