Park City is a mountain town in Summit County, Utah, about 35 miles east of Salt Lake City. The town grew around silver mining in the 1800s, and some storefronts on its Main Street still date from that era. Visitors come for the ski resorts, including Park City Mountain and Deer Valley. In January the town has long hosted the Sundance Film Festival.
The season decides the trip. In winter, skiing and snowboarding are the reason to go. In summer, the same mountains have hiking and mountain-biking trails. Choose your base area once you know the season, because winter and summer lodging and routes differ. Lift and trail access are seasonal, so check which lifts and trails run before you book. Plan two to three days for a ski trip or a summer biking weekend, and add a day if you want Salt Lake City too.

- Do not plan around the Sundance festival hereThe Sundance Film Festival's own site lists the festival in Boulder, Colorado, so check its site before you book Park City dates for it. The town remains a ski and mountain base.Sundance Film Festival
- Fly into Salt Lake City and drive upSalt Lake City International is the gateway, roughly 35 to 45 minutes by car depending on traffic and weather. Winter storms can slow the canyon roads, so allow extra time on arrival day.Getting around the USA
- Choose a resort base, not just a town basePark City's lift access sits at the resort bases and along Main Street, which are a short ride apart. Pick the base nearest the lifts you will use, and check each resort's site for lift ticket prices by date.
- Pair it with Utah's national parksZion, Bryce Canyon, Arches and Moab are all long drives south. A road trip works best in May, June or September, when canyon heat is easier to manage.Utah
- Rent a car or plan shuttlesA car helps for airport transfers and trailheads, but Main Street is walkable and the town runs free bus routes. Check the city's transit site before you decide.

When is the best time to ski in Park City?
January and February have the most reliable snow, with March bringing spring skiing. Check each resort's site for opening and closing dates, which vary by snowfall.
