The courthouse at 73 W Flagler St stands on the site of an earlier county courthouse. A courthouse built there in 1904 was the tallest structure in Dade County at the time, and the tallest building south of Baltimore. A later building was erected on the same site in 1925 as Miami’s population grew.

The present Neo-Classical courthouse opened in 1928, following four years of construction. Its design came from nationally known architect Anthony Ten Eyck Brown, working with Miami designer Walter DeGarmo.

This remains a working courthouse, so visits may be tied to court business or jury duty.
