Visit Little Church of the West in Las Vegas for its redwood chapel, original pews and Viva Las Vegas history, or arrange an intimate ceremony.

Little Church of the West is a historic wedding chapel on Las Vegas Boulevard, across from Mandalay Bay. Built in 1942 as a replica of a pioneer town church, it has warm redwood interiors, original pews and some original light fixtures. Little Church of the West was built in 1942 by Last Frontier Hotel and Casino architect William Moore. It was designed to resemble a typical pioneer-town church and constructed from redwood. The chapel was created to attract business to the casino, but it has outlasted the buildings and entertainment around it.

The chapel moved several times before reaching its current location on the east side of the Strip, south of Mandalay Bay. It is across Las Vegas Boulevard from Mandalay Bay and close to the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.

Some of the building’s early details remain, including its pews and light fixtures. The wood interior and small scale give the chapel a traditional appearance that stands apart from the Strip’s larger venues.

The chapel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its nomination recognizes its connection to the history of wedding chapels and the wedding industry in Nevada. It also appeared in the 1964 film Viva Las Vegas, in which Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret recited vows. Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford are among the other celebrities associated with weddings at the chapel.

Ceremonies and vow renewals

The chapel arranges weddings and vow renewals, with an officiant and photography among the services described. Couples can choose standard vows, provide their own or combine the two. An Elvis impersonator is an option, and the chapel can help arrange other services such as flowers, video and limousine transport.

Ceremonies are planned with the chapel’s staff, so ask about the available options and any additional fees before booking. Some couples have found the ceremony pace quick, and photography experiences have varied. If photographs are especially important to you, discuss the arrangements in advance and consider bringing your own photographer.
