Biloxi is a city in Harrison County on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It faces the Gulf of Mexico, with barrier islands sheltering the Mississippi Sound behind them. French colonists founded the settlement in the early 1700s, and the Biloxi Lighthouse on Point Cadet, completed in 1848, still stands on the waterfront. Shrimping and seafood remain part of local life, and casino resorts line much of the beachfront.
The main draws are the beach, fresh Gulf seafood and day trips by ferry to Ship Island, part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, where you can swim and walk around Fort Massachusetts. Hurricane Katrina hit the coast in 2005 and damaged much of it, and the city has rebuilt since, so check current conditions for the areas you plan to visit. Spring through fall is the warm season for swimming, and two or three days covers the main sights. Summer is also peak hurricane season, so watch forecasts if you travel then.

How many days do you need in Biloxi?
Two days cover the beachfront, a casino evening and a ferry to Ship Island if the schedule works. Add a day for Ocean Springs or a drive to New Orleans.
Is Biloxi worth visiting?
Yes, if you want Gulf beaches, casino resorts and seafood at a relaxed pace. It is less of a sightseeing city than New Orleans, so use it as a base for the coast and day trips.
When is the best time to visit Biloxi?
March to April and October to November, when days are mild and storm risk is lower. Hurricane season runs June to November, with the highest storm risk from August to October.
Do you need a car in Biloxi?
Most trips are easier with one, since the beachfront, Point Cadet and Ocean Springs are spread along the coast. Pick up the car at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.
Is Biloxi safe for tourists?
Visitors mostly stay on the beachfront, near the casinos and along Highway 90. Stay alert at night and keep valuables out of parked cars.
How far is Biloxi from New Orleans?
Roughly 90 miles by Interstate 10, usually 1.5 to 2 hours by car depending on traffic. A car gives you the most flexibility for a two-city trip.
