Do you need a visa?

How this tool works

We read the official notice for each pair and record the date. Nothing here is generated; a pair with no written check is not shown.

How we check

No visa. German citizens can enter Estonia with a passport or a national ID card.

Estonia is an EU and Schengen member, so German citizens cross without a visa and are not registered in the EES. The German Foreign Office lists a passport, a provisional passport, an ID card, a provisional ID card and a child passport as valid entry documents. It says travelers must be able to show ID when traveling in Estonia and when using ferries to neighboring countries, and that police and border officers can ask for it even though internal border controls ended.

Visa
Not required
Estonia is an EU and Schengen member.
Documents
Passport or national ID card
A provisional passport, provisional ID card or child passport also works; the provisional ID card must be valid.
At the border
No EES, no ETIAS
Both apply to non-EU visitors only; the EES excludes nationals of the countries that use it.
Ferries
Carry ID
The Auswärtiges Amt says travelers must be able to show ID in Estonia and on ferry links to neighboring countries; a fine is possible without it.
