Laem Son National Park is a protected stretch of Thailand's Andaman coast, running through Ranong province and into Phang Nga province. Khuraburi is the main access town on the Phang Nga side, and boats from there and from Ranong reach Ko Phayam. The park is mostly coastal forest and mangrove, with beaches and a group of islands. Visitors come for the coast, short boat rides and days spent doing little.
The park suits travelers who want simple beach stays and small guesthouses, and who accept basic facilities and longer transfers. The mainland shore is lined with mangroves, and the islands have sandy beaches. The coast gets most of its rain from about May to October, when seas can be rough and ferry schedules can change. The drier months, roughly November to April, are the usual window for a trip.
