Soufrière is a small town on the southwest coast of Saint Lucia. It sits on a bay below the Pitons, two volcanic peaks that rise steeply from the sea and are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its French colonial roots show in the older streets and buildings, which give it a different feel from the island's resort areas.
Most visitors come for the Pitons, which can be climbed with a licensed guide or seen from the water, and for the sulfur springs and mud baths at Sulphur Springs. Divers and snorkelers use the reefs offshore, and the Diamond Botanical Gardens are a short visit. Soufrière suits travelers who want beaches, hiking and boat trips more than nightlife. Plan at least two to three days, and visit in the dry season, roughly December to April, when rain is less frequent.

Two days cover the Pitons, Sulphur Springs and Diamond Falls. Add a third day for the Gros Piton climb or a day on the water.
Can you climb Gros Piton without a guide?
