Puerto de Mogán is a fishing village and marina at the mouth of a steep-sided valley on Gran Canaria's south-west coast. Canals and bridges link the marina to the fishing harbor, which is why the village is nicknamed Little Venice, or Venice of the Canaries. Restaurants and bars line the marina and the beach front. Tourism is the main economic activity here, and very few buildings in the village are more than two stories high, because the island government restricts taller new buildings.
Visitors come mainly for the marina and Mogán beach, which sits next to it and has a good reputation. A market is held every Friday and draws visitors from across the island. The Cañada de los Gatos site, at the mouth of the Mogán ravine, is a listed archaeological site. Several bus routes serve the village, and the GC1 motorway extension ends just north of it and is the main road access. Plan one day for the harbor and beach, and add a Friday visit if you want the market.
