Mirador de La Peña

Visit Mirador de La Peña in Guarazoca for César Manrique’s stone-and-wood design, terrace drinks and views over El Golfo Valley.

Mirador de La Peña combines a restaurant and viewpoint in Guarazoca, on El Hierro. César Manrique designed the stone-and-wood building, set about 700 metres above sea level, with views across El Golfo Valley and the ocean. Take a seat on the terrace for coffee or wine, or look out towards the Roques de Salmor and nearby vineyards. The restaurant serves local dishes, but the setting is the main draw; a drink and time to admire the architecture are a good fit if you would rather not plan a meal here.

César Manrique’s viewpoint

The building was designed in the 1980s by Lanzarote architect César Manrique. Stone and wood connect its design with the local surroundings, and the site has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. The restaurant is part of the viewpoint, so you can see the architecture and the scenery in one stop.

At around 700 metres above sea level, the viewpoint looks over El Golfo Valley, with the ocean beyond. The landscape can look different when clouds or mist move across it, but the valley remains the focus of the view.

What to order

The restaurant serves local cuisine. Papas arrugas with coriander-based verde sauce and red-pepper rojo sauce, island cheeses and local wine are options mentioned for a simple meal. The menu also includes seafood, croquettes, cortado and Irish coffee.

Food experiences can vary, so choose a drink if you are mainly here for the view. You can also bring snacks if you would rather not rely on the restaurant.
