A family garden in Agaete

The Armas family created Huerto de las Flores as a private garden in the late 19th century. It is now a public botanical garden in the centre of Agaete, with more than 100 species of exotic plants from around the world.

The compact garden brings together tropical plants, mature trees and colourful flowers. Its shaded paths offer a quieter change of pace from a walk through the village.

Poets and garden history

Huerto de las Flores was a meeting place for Canarian poets Tomás Morales, Saulo Torón and Alonso Quesada. The garden’s past is part of what makes a short walk here more than a look at its plant collection. Staff at the entrance may also share details about its history.
