Victoria

Victoria is the small, walkable capital of Seychelles, on Mahé Island. Go for the market, the ferry links to other islands, and a base for Mahé's beaches.

Victoria is the capital of Seychelles, on Mahé, the largest island in the country and home to most of its people. The town is compact and easy to walk. The harbor, the Central Market and the Clock Tower give it its character, and everyday food and life reflect Creole, French, English and Indian influences.

Victoria works best as a short stop before a beach trip, or as a base for a few days on Mahé. Spend time at the market, the botanical gardens and the waterfront, then use the rest of your days for the coast and the island's hiking trails. The islands are warm all year. The drier months run from May to September, and the wetter ones from about December to February. Plan at least one or two days in town.
