La Digue is a small island in the Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean off East Africa. Its granite boulders rise out of the sand at Anse Source d'Argent, the island's best-known beach. Cars are rare, and most traffic is bicycles and ox carts. Days here tend to be slow: swimming, walking the shore and watching birdlife in the island's nature reserve.
La Digue has no airport, so most visitors reach it by ferry from Praslin, and the island is small enough to cover by bicycle in a day. Many people stay two or three nights to visit the Veuve Nature Reserve, the old Union Estate copra plantation and the quieter beaches away from the main landing. April, May, September and October have the calmest, driest weather for beach days. A stay of a few nights suits travelers who want a quieter break than the busier main islands.
