Grand Maket Russia

Explore Russia in miniature at Grand Maket Russia in St Petersburg, with moving trains, detailed regional scenes and lighting that shifts from day to night.

Grand Maket Russia is a miniature model museum on Tsvetochnaya Ulitsa in St Petersburg, with an 800-square-metre display depicting regions across the country. Follow trains, cars and boats through detailed city and rural scenes, then look for tiny everyday moments among the buildings, roads and landscapes. Lights shift between day and night, and interactive buttons set parts of the model in motion. The scale and moving details give you plenty to examine, whether you visit with children or want a compact view of Russia’s varied regions.

Grand Maket Russia

Grand Maket Russia presents collective images of regions across the Russian Federation in a miniature layout built to a scale of 1:87. Its 800 square metres bring together urban and rural scenes, with roads, railways and waterways running through the display. The model depicts places and ways of life across a country too large to experience in a single visit.

The project began in 2008, and the model took about five years to build. It opened to the public in 2012. The museum occupies a two-storey building constructed in 1953, originally part of the Asbestos Technical Products Plant complex.

What to look for in the display

Move between busy city scenes and quieter rural settings, scanning for details such as vehicles, buildings, animals and people going about everyday activities. Trains, buses and cars move through the model, while interactive buttons activate some of its features. The scenes include industrial and transport details alongside homes, farms and landscapes.

The lighting shifts from daytime to night, bringing streetlights into view across the miniature scenes. The transition happens about every 15 minutes, so you can see the same parts of the model under different lighting during a visit. Binoculars are available to rent for a closer look at the small-scale details.

A visit for different ages

Children can press buttons to set selected parts of the display in motion, including trains, cars and animals. The changing lights and moving scenes give younger visitors something to follow, while adults can take time over the model’s craftsmanship and regional details.

The layout covers a lot of ground visually, so it helps to pause and scan each area rather than focus only on the largest landmarks. The museum also has a restaurant and restrooms. A park for children is described as being nearby, giving families another option after the visit.
