Vorobyovy Gory, or Sparrow Hills, is a green riverside area in Moscow known for its elevated city views. The observation platform looks across the Moskva River towards the centre of Moscow. On a clear day, the skyline includes the Kremlin, the towers of Moscow State University and the Moscow City district, with church cupolas, parks and residential buildings in between. The river bend sits in the foreground, framing the view.

The scene changes as the light shifts through the day. The hill is also a place to see the city after dark, when the illuminated skyline takes on a different look.

The hill rises above the river and its wooded slopes form part of a nature reserve. Paths lead through an area with more than 400 plant species and over 150 kinds of animals and birds. Springs are also found along the green routes.

You can walk or cycle here, with the paths and open setting giving the area room for outdoor recreation. From the metro station, the uphill walk to the viewpoint takes around 15 to 20 minutes. The route passes through the trees before reaching the open view.

The station and its setting

Vorobyovy Gory metro station opened in 1959 on a bridge spanning the Moskva River. It was the first station of its kind in Russia. After renovation in the 1990s, it later began hosting exhibitions. Displays have included porcelain, dolls, animal sculptures and period clothing, as well as seasonal exhibitions about Russian achievements in sports or space exploration.

The area brings together the river, green slopes and nearby sports landmarks, including Luzhniki Stadium. Moscow State University is another prominent part of the view from the hill. After visiting the platform, you can take the cableway down or continue exploring the paths on foot.
