Yves Saint Laurent Museum

Plan a visit to the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech for selected couture, sketches and a Studio KO building beside Jardin Majorelle.

On Rue Yves Saint Laurent, beside Jardin Majorelle, this museum traces the work and Marrakech connection of French couturier Yves Saint Laurent. Its collection brings together selected garments, haute couture accessories, sketches, photographs and objects, with temporary exhibitions adding another angle on fashion and design. The building, designed by Studio KO, combines contemporary shapes with details that recall Moroccan patterns and textiles. Visit for the clothes and creative process, or pair the museum with the nearby garden for a fuller look at the places linked to Saint Laurent.

A museum shaped by Saint Laurent’s Marrakech connection

The museum opened in 2017 and is devoted to the life and work of Yves Saint Laurent. The designer spent time in Marrakech with his partner, Pierre Bergé, and drew inspiration from the city’s colours, textiles and culture. The collection connects that influence with the clothes and ideas he developed over his career.

The museum stands on Rue Yves Saint Laurent, next to Jardin Majorelle. Saint Laurent and Bergé acquired and restored the garden, which was created by painter Jacques Majorelle. Visiting both places gives you a chance to see two parts of the story: the garden associated with Saint Laurent and the museum dedicated to his work.

The displays include selected garments, couture accessories, sketches, photographs and other objects. Some of Saint Laurent’s best-known designs are shown alongside material that offers a closer look at how he worked. Exhibitions also cover fashion, art and design, with temporary displays that can change what is on view from one visit to another.

The collection draws on a much larger archive held by the Fondation Pierre Bergé. Material associated with the foundation includes thousands of garments and accessories, as well as sketches. The museum presents a selection, so expect an exhibition rather than a walk through the complete archive. Photography is prohibited in the permanent fashion exhibition.

Architecture and planning your visit

Studio KO designed the museum, using sculptural forms and a façade patterned to suggest woven fabric. Its contemporary appearance sits within a Moroccan setting, reflecting the mix of influences behind Saint Laurent’s work. The building itself is part of the visit, alongside the fashion displays.

The museum is close enough to Jardin Majorelle to combine the two stops, but allow time for each. Advance booking is recommended, and you can select an entry time when arranging tickets. If you arrive without booking, tickets can be bought on site by scanning a QR code and completing payment locally. The museum is closed on Wednesdays.
