North of Marrakech, Cactus THIEMANN is a 17-acre garden and nursery with more than 150 varieties of cacti. Its orderly rows include towering plants and striking differences in shape, giving you plenty to look at on a quiet walk away from the city. There are shaded benches, a children’s playground and camels on site. Stop at the entrance cafe for a drink, or browse its shop for local produce and eco-friendly goods. The cafe does not serve meals, so bring a snack if you plan to stay through lunchtime.
A nursery founded by a cactus enthusiast

Cactus THIEMANN began in 1964, founded by German agricultural engineer Hans Thiemann. His family had a long-standing interest in cacti, and he established the Marrakech site as a nursery and research facility. The garden is now run by his daughter and is open to the public.
The collection covers 17 acres and includes more than 150 varieties. Rows of plants fill the grounds, from giant aloe and agave to cacti with very different shapes and growth patterns. One reported specimen reaches about eight metres tall. The scale is part of the appeal: even without specialist knowledge, you can compare the forms and sizes as you walk.
Walking through the garden

Follow the paths between the planted rows and take time to look closely at the variation between species. Some cacti rise well above head height, while others create dense, low displays. The grounds also have shaded areas and benches, so you can pause during the walk rather than following a set pace.
The garden sits outside the city, in the Ouahat Sidi Brahim area, opposite Marrakech’s grand stadium. The last stretch is a dirt track, and signs mark the way. Visitors have reached the area by public transport, though the return journey may take planning; check your options before you leave the city. The garden has wheelchair-accessible entrance and restroom facilities, as well as accessible parking.
What else is on site
A camel enclosure and a children’s playground add options for families. At the entrance, the cafe serves drinks and has free Wi-Fi; it is not a place to plan a full meal. Bring a snack if you want lunch during a longer visit.
The shop stocks local produce and eco-friendly items. If you are visiting mainly to photograph the plants, note that access to the area called the Cactus Forest requires a separate shooting-pass ticket. The regular garden still has large specimens and plenty to photograph.
