Troncones is a small beach village on Mexico's Pacific coast, in Guerrero state, about 32 km (20 miles) northwest of Zihuatanejo. Tourism has driven growth over the last 20 years, but the village still feels like a small town, unlike the high-rise hotels of nearby Ixtapa. Nights are quiet, with few weekly events.

The beach runs about 5 km (3.1 miles), with houses, eco-hostels, campgrounds, surf schools, a few restaurants and a couple of grocery stores. Even in the high season, October to May, you can walk long stretches of sand without meeting anyone. Troncones Point is the main surf break. It suits confident surfers, since the bottom is rock with some coral, and its biggest swells run from June to October. Spring and fall bring gentler waves. Two sea caves, Troncones and Majahua, and the Cascadas Artesianas waterfall are nearby. In 2008, bull sharks killed two surfers off Troncones and nearby Zihuatanejo, so ask locally about conditions before you swim.
