Cameron Highlands is a hill station in Pahang, in the central highlands of peninsular Malaysia, at about 1,500 meters above sea level. People come for the cool air, especially after time in the hot lowlands. Tea estates climb the slopes in neat rows, and vegetable and strawberry farms line the roads between the small towns.
The area grew up in the early 20th century, when British planters and officials used it as a retreat from the heat. Old bungalows and the tea and farm economy still show that history. Today it suits a slow trip of a few days: walks through forest and farmland, a visit to a tea estate, and time at local markets. Trails range from easy valley walks to longer forest hikes, and the Mossy Forest is among the best known. Plan two to four days, and expect the drier months to be the most comfortable for walking.
