Fondazione Merz is a contemporary art centre in a former 1930s industrial power station on Via Limone in Turin. Established in 2005, it preserves the work and legacy of artists Mario and Marisa Merz, while its changing exhibitions also bring in emerging and international artists. Installations and other works often address political and social questions. Explanatory labels are limited, so you can spend time forming your own reading of the art or do some research before your visit.
A former power station for contemporary art

Fondazione Merz opened in 2005 in a former industrial power station in Turin. The building was once part of the Officine Lancia complex, and its industrial past gives the exhibition space a distinct setting. The foundation was established to preserve the legacy of Mario and Marisa Merz and to support exhibitions, events and research in contemporary art.
Mario and Marisa Merz met in Turin in the 1950s and became important figures in the development of Arte Povera. The foundation’s programme includes exhibitions devoted to their work as well as projects by contemporary artists from Italy and abroad.
Exhibitions and how to view them

The programme changes, bringing together work in different media and, at times, site-specific projects. Past exhibitions have included artists such as Wael Shawky, Alfredo Jaar and Mona Hatoum, alongside presentations of work by Mario and Marisa Merz. Exhibitions have also presented finalists for the Merz Prize.
Explanatory labels are limited, so context may not be available beside each artwork. You can approach the works independently or look up information about the current exhibition before visiting. Check the foundation’s website for the programme, including any live music events.
