Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher are sea cliffs in County Clare, with views of the Aran Islands, Galway’s mountains and the Atlantic.

The Cliffs of Moher run for about 14 km along Ireland’s Atlantic coast, on the southwestern edge of the Burren in County Clare. They rise 120 m at Hag’s Head and reach 214 m just north of O’Brien’s Tower. From the cliffs, you can see the Aran Islands, the Maumturks and Twelve Pins mountains in County Galway, and Loop Head. The visitor centre has exhibits on the cliffs’ geology, history, plants and animals, as well as cafés and shops. The cliffs are part of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark, recognised by UNESCO.

You can view the cliffs from above or take a boat trip from Doolin to see them from sea level. Doolin is also a base for ferries to the Aran Islands and traditional Irish music. Bus Éireann route 350 links the cliffs with Ennis, Ennistymon, Doolin, Lisdoonvarna, Kinvara and Galway several times daily. The official coastal trail runs about 14 km from Hag’s Head to Doolin, but it was closed as of September 2025 because of safety problems. Check its current status before setting out, and stay on the official path. March to May is a good time for birdwatching; more than 20 bird species nest on the cliffs.
