Mussoorie is a hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, on a ridge in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas. Most visitors reach it by road from Dehradun, the nearest large city. British officers founded the town in the 1820s as a retreat from the summer heat of the plains, and its old buildings and churches still stand along the ridge. Mall Road, the main promenade, holds most of the shops, cafés and stalls.
The air stays cool, the ridge walks are the main draw, and on clear mornings the snow-capped peaks come into view. Kempty Falls, a waterfall a short drive below town, is a common day outing. The town suits families, couples and anyone after a short break from the plains. Two or three nights covers the main sights at an unhurried pace. Spring and autumn bring the clearest days and mild temperatures, while the monsoon brings heavy rain that often hides the views.

- Book ahead for May and June weekendsDelhi and Punjab families fill hotels on weekends in summer, and the road up from Dehradun jams. Reserve a room well ahead and aim to arrive on a weekday.
- Fly to Dehradun, then take the winding roadJolly Grant airport is the closest, and the drive up takes about 1–1.5 hours when traffic is light. Trains reach Dehradun from Delhi, with onward taxis.
- Add Rishikesh on the way downThe two towns pair well, with Mussoorie for cool air and Rishikesh for the river. Allow a long half-day for the transfer by road.Rishikesh
- Carry a jacket from October to MarchEvenings cool fast, and winter brings cold, fog and the occasional snowfall at the top of the ridge. Check the forecast before you go for weather views.

How many days do you need in Mussoorie?
Two days are enough for Mall Road, a viewpoint and a Landour walk. Three work if you want to read, hike and linger. A single day from Dehradun is a rush.
What is the best time to visit Mussoorie?
March to May and September to November give the clearest air and mild days. June is busy and hot in the plains. July and August are wet, and winter is cold with fog.
Is Mussoorie worth visiting?
Yes for cool air and old-hill-station charm, less so if you want wild peaks nearby. Climbers and trekkers usually go farther into Uttarakhand, and Mussoorie works as a gentle first stop.
How far is Mussoorie from Rishikesh?
About 80 km by road, or roughly 2.5–3 hours with hill traffic. Many visitors combine both with a night each, as the climate and mood are very different.
Do you need a car in Mussoorie?
Not in the center, where walking is the best way. A taxi helps for Landour, Kempty Falls and the trip back down, and you should confirm pickup the evening before.
