Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep)

Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep) is an island in the Andaman group where visitors come for beaches, snorkeling and diving.

Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep) is an inhabited island in the Andaman group, in the Bay of Bengal. It is part of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India. Most visitors arrive by ferry from Port Blair, the territory's capital on South Andaman. Radhanagar Beach, on the west coast, is the island's best-known beach. Elephant Beach, reached by boat, is where many people snorkel over a shallow reef. Reefs around the island also draw divers, and dive operators are based here.

The island is quiet, with few towns and no large city, which suits a slow beach stay. The dry season runs roughly from November to May, when seas are calmer and boats run more reliably. From about June to September the monsoon brings rough seas, and ferries can be cancelled or delayed, so plan around that if you travel in those months.

  4. Check the last ferry before you planFerries to Port Blair and Neil run on fixed schedules and fill in December and January. Book early, and arrive at the pier well before the departure time.Andaman itinerary, 5 days
  5. Leave the coral and shellsCollecting coral or shells is illegal in India, and reefs here are fragile. Keep fins off the coral, carry out your waste, and avoid souvenirs that come from the sea.
