Hlane Royal National Park is a protected wildlife area in the east of Eswatini, the small kingdom in southern Africa. The land was once a royal hunting ground for the Swazi kings and is now run as a national park. Its open bush and grassland hold lions, elephants, white rhinos, giraffes, buffalo and several antelope species, so you can see large animals on a short visit.
Hlane suits a short, focused safari. Treat it as a day trip, or stay a night or two for more game drives. It fits well into a wider trip to Eswatini. The best time to go is the dry winter months, roughly June to August, when the grass is shorter and animals gather around water. Summer brings heat and rain, and the bush is greener and harder to see through.
