Nuweiba is a coastal town on the Gulf of Aqaba, in the eastern Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. It is quieter than the busier Red Sea resort towns, and visitors come to relax on the beach, dive, or stay in Bedouin-style tents. A strip of modern hotels lies between the town and the port. North of town, Tarabin village has Bedouin-style camps with cheap huts for rent, and more beaches with similar camps lie toward Taba.

Nuweiba Port, about 7 km south of town, runs car ferries to Aqaba in Jordan several times a day, so the town is also a sea crossing. Divers head for reefs such as Ras Shaitan, known for hard corals and octopus, and Um Um Reisher, which beginners can reach from the beach. For the most comfortable weather, go in winter, when average temperatures are about 20°C. Summer averages about 33°C.

    Nuweiba FAQ

    Is Nuweiba worth visiting?

Yes if you want a quiet beach stop between Sharm and the Jordan ferry, with simple stays and desert day trips. It is a poor choice if you want nightlife, a big choice of restaurants or a resort with entertainment.

How do you get from Aqaba to Nuweiba?

By ferry. The UK advice says services run between Aqaba and Nuweiba and Taba Heights, and that you should contact the operators directly for schedules and availability. Check Jordan's travel advice for exit requirements.

Do you need a visa to enter Egypt at Nuweiba?

If you stay more than 15 days or travel beyond Sinai, yes: the UK advice says visas can be bought at the Nuweiba port terminal. Bring US dollars in cash, because payments at the port are often required in cash.

    Is Nuweiba safe to visit?

The UK advice treats the coastal areas of South Sinai separately from the northern interior, where it advises against all but essential travel. Read the current wording and keep inland trips with approved operators.

When is the best time to visit Nuweiba?

March to May and October to November have warm sea and tolerable air. Summer highs reach the high 30s °C, and winter is cooler with windy days, so pick a stay with air conditioning in summer.
