Ulu Temburong National Park

Ulu Temburong National Park

Reach Brunei’s rainforest by longboat, then follow forest boardwalks to a steel canopy walkway 50 meters above the ground.

Ulu Temburong National Park is in Temburong District, eastern Brunei. Brunei’s first national park, it has been protected since 1991 and covers about 550 square kilometers within the Batu Apoi Forest Reserve. Visitors travel by longboat from Batang Duri, which is reached by road from Bangar. The boats follow the Temburong River into the park, passing sandbars, logs and boulders. Inside, a network of boardwalks, bridges and stairways runs about 7 kilometers, with information boards along the route.

The steel canopy walkway rises 50 meters above the forest floor, with views over the highest treetops. Eastern grey gibbons live mostly in the canopy, and smooth-coated otters can be seen on the Temburong River. The park has about 400 butterfly species, including Rajah Brooke’s birdwing. Ulu Ulu Resort is the only accommodation inside the park. Its operations were suspended on June 20, 2020, so check whether it has reopened before planning an overnight stay. Staying there requires a tour package that includes transfers to and from Bandar Seri Begawan.
