Bathsheba is a fishing village in the parish of Saint Joseph on Barbados’s east coast. The village is known for views over the Scotland District and Bathsheba beach, a surfing spot called the Soup Bowl. Local and international surfing competitions are held there every year. A large boulder sits just offshore; some people call it Bathsheba Rock. The Flower Forest and the Cotton Tower are among the village’s main attractions, and several small historic churches can be seen on a walk around town.

Joe’s River Tropical Rainforest lies on the edge of Bathsheba and covers about 85 acres (340,000 m²). Trees there include giant ficus, citrifolia, fid woods, white woods, cabbage palms and mahogany. On Horse Hill, Saint Joseph Anglican Church dates from 1640. A hurricane damaged it in 1831, and it was rebuilt in 1839. Nearby, Little Saint Joseph chapel was built in 1837. After a landslide, it was restored and dedicated to Saint Aiden in 1904. These sights give you several stops to choose from, whether you are heading to the beach, the rainforest or a church.
