Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park lies about 440 km south-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia and covers 1,326 square kilometers. Its two landmarks are Uluru, a sandstone monolith about 348 meters high, and Kata Tjuta, a group of 36 rock domes about 40 km west of it. Anangu, the traditional Aboriginal owners, co-manage the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve with Parks Australia.
Visitors come for sunrise and sunset viewing areas and for Anangu-led walks that cover plants, bush foods and Tjukurpa, the belief that ancestral beings shaped the land. Climbing Uluru has been banned since October 2019 because the rock holds great spiritual significance for Anangu. Camping is not allowed inside the park, so visitors stay at the Yulara resorts just outside. Summers reach 45 °C, so the cooler months are the easiest time to walk. The entrance fee is $25 per person aged 16 and over, valid for three consecutive days.
