Noosa Heads sits in the Shire of Noosa on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and is a popular holiday town. Noosaville and Tewantin run into it without a break, so the three form one built-up stretch at the northern end of the coast. The Noosa River and Weyba Creek border it to the west, and the Coral Sea lies to the north and east. Noosa Beach, the main beach, has drawn visitors since the 1890s and is a regular stop on world surfing circuits.
Noosa National Park covers the northeast of the area. Its coastal walking track passes headlands, lookouts and bays, including Fairy Pools, Noosa Inlet and Hell's Gates near Alexandria Bay. Noosa Hill, inside the park, rises 146 metres above sea level, the highest point in the suburb. Koalas are often seen in and around the park, though the local population is in decline. Hastings Street runs directly behind the seashore, and many of the district's restaurants and hotels line it.

- Walk the national park, and follow its rulesNoosa National Park covers about 3,000 ha. Pets are prohibited, you must stay on tracks, and the fenced dune behind Alexandria Bay is off limits. The park has no camping.Noosa National Park
- Give the Everglades a full dayTourism Queensland calls the Noosa Everglades one of only two everglade systems in the world, with 60 km of tree-lined waterways. The gateway is about 20 minutes from Main Beach.
- Choose Sunshine Coast Airport if you canNoosa is a 30-minute drive north of Sunshine Coast Airport. From Brisbane Airport it is an easy 1.5-hour drive up the Bruce Highway, with buses, transfers and hire cars.
- Stay by Hastings Street or by the riverTourism Queensland puts Hastings Street at the center of the action; Noosaville is on the river and tends to be easier on the budget.Visit Noosa
- Treat Noosa as the start of the coast, not the endNoosa works as a first stop on the Queensland coast before the Whitsundays and the far north, so plan the flight north from Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast.Queensland road-trip planner

How many days do you need in Noosa?
Two to three days cover the headland walk, Main Beach and a full day on the Everglades. Add a day if you want to surf, paddle the river or drive to the southern sections of the national park.
Is Noosa worth visiting?
Yes for a beach-and-bush weekend: a national park headland, a sheltered beach and a river within a short drive of each other. It is not the place for reef trips; those start farther north.
Can you visit the Noosa Everglades on a day trip?
Yes. The gateway is about 20 minutes from Main Beach, and Tourism Queensland recommends a full day. Book a boat or canoe tour and check the weather before you go.
Can you camp or bring dogs in Noosa National Park?
No. Queensland Parks lists the park as no camping, and pets are prohibited. Stay on the tracks and keep out of the fenced dune behind Alexandria Bay.
When is the best time to visit Noosa?
April to June and August to October are the easy months: mild, clear and quieter than the summer school holidays. Summer is hot and stormy, and the beach is busy.
