Melbourne Skydeck

See Melbourne from level 88 of Eureka Tower, with 360-degree views, an outdoor viewing area and the glass-cube experience at The Edge.

Melbourne Skydeck occupies level 88 of Eureka Tower in Southbank, nearly 300 metres above the city. Its floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor viewing area look across Melbourne, the Yarra River and landmarks including Flinders Street Station and the MCG. On a clear day, the view reaches towards the Dandenong Ranges. Interactive displays help you identify what you can see, and The Edge adds a glass-floor experience for visitors comfortable with heights. The Skydeck also has a bar and places to sit with a drink while the city changes from daylight to evening.

A high view of the city

Melbourne Skydeck

Melbourne Skydeck is on level 88 of Eureka Tower, in Southbank. The observation deck sits about 285 metres above street level, with windows around the viewing area and an outdoor section. From here, the city spreads out around the Yarra River. On clear days, the outlook extends towards the Dandenong Ranges.

Use the viewfinders to locate landmarks across Melbourne. Flinders Street Station, Federation Square, the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Royal Botanic Gardens are among the places you can spot from above. The changing scale is part of the appeal: streets and buildings that feel familiar from ground level become easier to place in relation to the river and the wider city.

The Edge and other experiences

The Edge is a glass cube that extends beyond the building from the Skydeck. Its transparent floor gives a direct view down towards the city, so it is aimed at visitors who are comfortable with heights. The experience is an optional extra, and ticket information should be checked when you book.

Interactive displays and information panels introduce Melbourne’s landmarks, history and architecture. A model of the city is also part of the visit, giving you a way to orient yourself before looking for those places from the deck. Families can turn the landmark search into a simple game, while viewfinders help pinpoint sights across the panorama.

A bar and snack options are available on the upper floor, with seating where you can pause and take in the view. The deck’s outlook changes with the light: daytime makes it easier to identify buildings, while sunset brings a gradual shift towards the city’s evening lights.

Eureka Tower’s name and design

Eureka Tower takes its name from the Eureka Stockade, a miners’ rebellion during Victoria’s gold rush. Details on the building refer to that history: the gold crown represents the gold rush, while the red stripe recalls the bloodshed associated with the rebellion. The white horizontal bands refer to the markings on a surveyor’s measuring staff.

The Skydeck has operated since 2006. Its place high above Southbank makes it a useful stop for getting a broad view of Melbourne’s layout, especially if you have already visited some of the landmarks visible from the windows. The city model and information displays provide context for what you see from level 88, while the viewing areas let you take your time with the skyline.
