Ushuaia is the capital of Tierra del Fuego Province, on the southern coast of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. The city sits beside the Beagle Channel, with the Martial range to the north, and its commercial pier is a departure point for Antarctic expeditions. Tierra del Fuego National Park is reachable by road or by the End of the World Train, a tourist railway built by prisoners. Inside the park, you can visit Lapataia Bay and the southern end of the Pan-American Highway.

In Ushuaia, the former prison complex houses the Museo Marítimo de Ushuaia, and the city museum covers Yámana, English and Argentine settlement history. Beagle Channel boat trips offer chances to see penguins, seals, orcas and local birds. For more time outdoors, Glacier Martial is reached by hiking trails from the city edge or by chairlift in summer. Cerro Castor, about 27 km north, typically has a ski season from June to October. The weather is cool year-round, with frost possible in any month; bring warm, waterproof layers.
