Theth is a village in a deep valley in northern Albania, inside the Albanian Alps. People come for the Grunas waterfall and its canyon, the Blue Eye spring and the Ngujimit Tower above the village. Village life is quiet and built around guesthouses, farmland and walking trails, with few shops and no nightlife. The road from Shkodër is steep and rough, and it crosses a mountain pass to reach the valley.
The valley suits hikers and anyone who wants a few slow days in the mountains. Allow a full day for the drive and do not plan a tight schedule around it. Snow can close the pass in winter, so check road conditions before you travel outside the summer months. Stay at least one night if you want to see the main sights on foot.

- Plan the road, not just the hikeThe route to Theth crosses the Tërthore Pass at about 2,000 m, per the tourism agency. Allow a slow journey, ask your guesthouse about the current road and book the transfer instead of improvising.Shkodra travel guide
- Stay at least one nightA day trip from the coast leaves little time for walking. A guesthouse night lets you see the Grunas waterfall and canyon, the Okoli springs and the Blue Eye without racing the road.
- See the Ngujimit Tower and the churchThe tower is a symbol of the Kanun, the customary law of the region, and the village church dates from 1892 and was restored in 2005. Walk the traditional kulla houses between them.
- Hike on marked paths onlyUK advice: stay on marked paths and heed warning signs. German advice: trails can be poorly signed and Albania has no professional mountain rescue and few rescue helicopters. Tell your host your route and start early.Insurance for hiking
- Carry cash and check the seasonValley guesthouses are small, some may be seasonal, and card payment is not guaranteed. Confirm your booking and bring lek before you leave the city.

How many days do you need in Theth?
Two nights is the comfortable minimum: a day for the waterfall, canyon and Blue Eye, and a second for a longer hike. One night works if you only want the main sights.
Is Theth worth the journey?
Yes if you like mountain scenery and simple guesthouses. The road is slow and the valley is remote, so go if you have the time to stay, not if you need a quick stop.
How do you get to Theth from Shkodra?
By car, arranged transfer or organized tour. The road crosses the Tërthore Pass at about 2,000 m. Ask your guesthouse for the current road conditions and a transfer price before you set out.
When is the best time to go to Theth?
Summer, from around June to September, when the trails are most accessible. Snow is likely in winter and some accommodation may be closed, so confirm availability before any off-season trip.
Can you hike from Theth to Valbona?
Many hikers link the two valleys over a high pass. It is a long mountain day, so start early, carry a map and water, and ask your guesthouse about conditions on the pass before you set out.
