Caletilla Beach
Beach

Caletilla Beach

Caletilla Beach in Acapulco has calm water sheltered by Roqueta Island, close to the Costera. Arrive early on busy days, and rent a tent for shade.

Caletilla Beach is a small, sheltered beach in the Old Acapulco area, southwest of the city. It lies in a cove beside Caleta Beach, with Roqueta Island offshore to break the force of the Pacific swell. The water is calm enough for families and older visitors, and the yellow sand is soft underfoot. Come for an easy swim, a slow day under a rented tent, and a view of the historic Hotel Boca Chica in the next cove.

Where the beach sits

Caletilla Beach
Caletilla Beach

Caletilla lies southwest of the city, in the Old Acapulco area. It forms a small cove to the south of the Peninsula de Playas, next to Caleta Beach. The two beaches are among the first you reach along the Costera Miguel Alemán, the avenue that runs along the bay.

The docks that serve the area are on Caleta and Caletilla, on Miguel Alemán Avenue, so boats and tour operators are easy to find from the road.

Calm water and Roqueta Island

Caletilla Beach
Caletilla Beach

Roqueta Island sits directly in front of the two beaches. It absorbs much of the current that comes in from the Pacific, which is why the water stays quiet and the waves stay low. Many people rank Caleta and Caletilla among the best beaches in Acapulco for this reason.

The water is also suitable for scuba diving. The sand is soft and the waves are quiet, so the beach suits a slow morning in the water as well as a family day.

Acapulco in the 1950s

In the 1950s, many celebrities and millionaires spent their holidays on this beach. Caletilla kept its reputation as a classic spot of old Acapulco, and it is still known as a place to relax with family.

The area is part of the traditional district of the city, so the beach feels different from the high-rise hotel zone a few kilometres away.

Hotel Boca Chica

The historic Hotel Boca Chica stands in a quiet cove next to Caletilla. It is a white, boxy building three stories tall, and each room has a square balcony fitted with a hammock. The hotel is one of the notable buildings of the traditional Acapulco district.

Even if you do not stay there, the hotel is a useful landmark when you walk along the cove.
