Cómo verificamos la información

Every price, rule, opening time and journey time in a guide carries the date it was checked. Rules link to the official source, so you can read them yourself.

Dated facts

Prices, opening hours, taxes, fares and journey times each carry a check date, shown next to the fact or at the top of the table it sits in.

Hotel price bands are rough guides to a double room, not quotes. They show the date they were last compared, and the price on the booking page is the one that counts.

Official sources first

Entry rules, visa requirements, taxes and fees come from the government or operator that sets them: immigration services, transport operators, park authorities and city tax offices. The guide links to that page.

When two sources disagree, we follow the one that sets the rule. When a fact can no longer be confirmed, it comes out of the guide.

Field visits

When a writer has visited the place for a guide, the month of that visit appears next to their name at the top of the page.

A second reader

Every guide is read by a reviewer before it is published. Both names are on the page, with the date of the last update.

Rechecks and update history

Rules that change often, such as entry requirements and tourist taxes, are rechecked on a schedule and whenever a government announces a change.

Each guide ends with an update history that lists what changed and when. Corrections are made on the page, with the date, and are not applied silently.

Travel advisories

Advisories are read every day from the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Germany. A country under a warning shows it at the top of its pages, with a link to each government's own text.

The tools

The visa checker lists only the passport and destination pairs that have been checked against the official source, each with its date. A pair that is not listed has not been checked yet; it does not mean a visa is required.

The trip cost calculator gives a source for every line of a daily budget. Weather by month is a ten-year average of daily records for that place.
