Fethiye is a town and district in Muğla Province, on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. Modern Fethiye sits on Telmessos, an ancient city, and its Hellenistic theatre stands by the main quay. The Tomb of Amyntas, a large Lycian tomb from around 350 BC, is in town. The Fethiye Museum displays finds from the successive civilizations of the area, starting with the ancient Lycians.
People come for boat trips in the Gulf of Fethiye, beaches, diving and paragliding. Boats often stop at Kızılada, a small island about 6.4 km off the city. Ölüdeniz, about 4 km southwest of the city centre, is known for its beach spit and the Blue Lagoon. Kayaköy, a former Greek village about 4 km southwest of the centre, has been abandoned, but its Greek Orthodox church still stands. Summer is the busiest and hottest season, while spring and autumn are milder for sightseeing. Dalaman Airport is the main air gateway to the area.
