St Kitts and Nevis is a two-island country in the Leeward Islands, in the Eastern Caribbean. Both islands are volcanic, and a short ferry crosses the narrow channel between them. St Kitts is the larger island and has the capital, Basseterre. Nevis is smaller and quieter, with its own capital, Charlestown.
Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a fort the British built on a steep hill on St Kitts, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the island's best-known sight. Old sugar estates from the colonial period still stand on both islands. The trip suits travelers who want history, walks and beach days without a busy nightlife scene. The dry season, roughly December to April, is the most comfortable time to visit. Hurricane season runs June to November. Seven days covers both islands at an unhurried pace.
