Poznań is a city of 534,239 residents in western Poland, and the old regional capital of Greater Poland. Its Old Market Square is framed by a Renaissance Town Hall, rebuilt in the 1550s after a 1536 fire. The clock has two goats that butt heads, a feature since 1551. Every day at 12:00 a trumpet plays the city's hejnał from the tower. The Old Town was almost completely destroyed in World War II and rebuilt after 1945.
Ostrów Tumski, an island on the Warta, is the oldest part of the city. Poznań Cathedral there is a red-brick Gothic church, and early Polish rulers were buried in it. Poznań is also a university city and a trade-fair center, and most visitors come on business. For leisure, the Malta park around an artificial lake has rowing, canoeing and a thermal pool complex. Summers are warm, with highs often reaching 30 °C.

How many days do you need in Poznań?
One night covers the Old Market Square, the goats and a museum. Two days add Ostrów Tumski with the cathedral and Porta Posnania, plus time for the Citadel Park or a shopping stop at Stary Browar.
What time do the Poznań goats come out?
Visit Poznań lists noon and 3 pm daily, when two goats appear on the Town Hall tower and clatter 12 times. Check the portal on the day, since schedules can change.
Is Poznań worth visiting?
Yes, for a Renaissance Town Hall, a lively Old Market Square, the oldest cathedral in Poland and a pastry with its own museum. It works best as a stop between Warsaw, Wrocław and Berlin rather than a week-long base.
How do you get from Poznań airport to the center?
Bus 159 runs to the Railway Station, bus 148 and night bus 222 also serve the center, and taxis wait by the terminal. Visit Poznań says the taxi ride takes about 15 minutes.
Is Poznań or Wrocław better for a short stay?
Wrocław has more museums and a longer list of sights, so it suits two days. Poznań is more compact and fits one night. Read the Wrocław guide if you are choosing one.
