Masirah Island

Masirah Island

Visit Masirah for loggerhead turtle beaches, seabirds and long sand shores, reached by ferry from the Oman mainland.

Masirah is one of Oman's largest islands, lying off the country's east coast in the Arabian Sea. You reach it by ferry from Shannah on the mainland, so the crossing is part of the plan from the start. The island is known for loggerhead turtles that nest on its beaches, for seabirds, and for long, wide sand shores.

Masirah suits travelers who want sea, wildlife and quiet more than city sights. Put the ferry crossing and the drive across the island into your schedule before you count nights on the beach. Most places to sleep are on the island itself, and it has its own airport if you would rather fly in. Turtle nesting is seasonal, so check the dates before you go. Summers on the coast are hot. A few nights gives you time for the beaches once the crossing is done.
