Universal Volcano Bay

Universal Volcano Bay is a water park at Universal Orlando Resort, at 6000 Universal Blvd in Orlando, Florida.

Universal Volcano Bay is a water park at Universal Orlando Resort, at 6000 Universal Blvd in Orlando, Florida. Krakatau, a towering volcano, anchors the park, with slides that plunge from its heights and the Krakatau Aqua Coaster winding through it in four-person boats. You can switch between wave pools, sandy beaches, two rivers, raft rides and children’s play areas. For a slower break, find a spot by the water; for a sweet treat, look for Waturi Fusion, a colorful soft-serve ice cream.

The volcano and its rides

Krakatau is the park’s central landmark, with water slides descending from the volcano and the Aqua Coaster running through it. The coaster sends riders in four-person boats along a route of turns and drops. It is one of the park’s signature options for a more active ride.

Other choices include body slides, raft rides and plunge slides. Some drop into deep pools, while others begin high on the volcano. The range makes it possible to move between gentler water attractions and rides with a sharper rush, though height requirements can rule out some slides for younger children.

Pools, beaches and rivers

The wave pool gives you a place to swim and play, with the volcano in view. Sandy artificial beaches line the water, so you can pause between rides or settle in for a quieter stretch of the day. Children’s play areas add another option for families who want time away from the larger slides.

There are two rivers, including a slower route for floating and TeAwa, the Fearless River, which moves faster. The rivers are a useful change of pace from climbing stairs and riding slides, and the faster one has proved popular with families as well as thrill-seekers.

Food, shade and a full day out

Restaurants and bars are spread across the park, giving you places to stop for food or a drink between attractions. Waturi Fusion, a colorful twisted soft-serve, is one treat to look for. Food has been reported at around $20 per person, but prices can change, so check current menus and costs when planning your budget.

Private cabanas provide shade, towels and snacks in a beachside setting. They are an option if you want a more secluded place to rest, but they are not necessary to enjoy the park. Lockers are available for personal belongings; some ride areas also have places to leave shoes and bags while you ride.

Planning your visit

Arriving early can help you find a beach chair before the park gets busier. Weekdays may bring more manageable waits, but popular slides can still build long queues around midday. One weekday visit had waits of roughly 10 to 30 minutes for most rides, while a popular attraction reached 80 to 90 minutes at midday. Treat those figures as a planning example, not a guarantee.

The park covers a large area, so bring what you need for a day in the water and allow time to walk between attractions. Pack a towel, water shoes, goggles and sunscreen. Tickets and parking are recommended in advance. Cabana Bay is nearby, and staying there has been associated with early park access; check the current hotel and park arrangements before booking.

TapuTapu, the wearable virtual queue system mentioned in older park information, is no longer operating. Check the current ride-queue arrangements before your visit rather than relying on advice based on that system.
