Confidentialité

What this site records when you read it, and what it does not: no account, no cookies set by the site, no stored IP address and no profile of you.

The short version

Reading the guides needs no account. The site itself sets no cookies, does not store your IP address and does not build a profile of you.

Page views

To know which guides are read, a page you stay on sends one anonymous count: the page, its language and the day. The counts are stored as daily totals per page.

To filter repeat loads and bots, your IP address and browser type are turned into a scrambled value with a key that changes every day. That value is kept for about an hour and is never written to our database.

Paid buttons

When you press a red booking button, we count which offer was pressed, the page it was on, the page language and the country the request came from. No name, email or IP address is stored with that count.

The button then takes you to the partner's site, which applies its own privacy policy and may set its own cookies.

Trip planner and saved choices

Trips you build in the trip planner, places you save and choices such as Celsius or Fahrenheit are kept in your browser's storage on your own device. They are not sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes them.

When you search for a place or draw a route in the trip planner, the search text or the coordinates are sent through our server to a mapping service to get the result.

Services your browser contacts

Photos are loaded from Unsplash and map tiles from OpenFreeMap. Like any web server, they see the IP address your browser connects from.

Email

If you write to us, we keep your message for as long as it takes to answer it and to make any correction it leads to.

Questions

Because there is no account and no profile, there is usually nothing for us to export or delete. If you have a question about your data, the Contact page tells you how to reach us.
