Baluarte de San Pedro, or Baluard de Sant Pere, is a 16th-century bastion in Ibiza’s Dalt Vila, at Plaça del Sol. Its walls once helped protect the city from raids, and the site now has a short audiovisual presentation about their construction. From the top, you can look across the bay. The bastion is also used for open-air cinema screenings, and the winding route nearby leads towards the old town and its cafés.
A bastion in Dalt Vila’s walls
Baluarte de San Pedro is part of the fortified walls around Ibiza’s ancient citadel. The bastion and the adjoining section of wall were designed and restored in the 16th century by Italian engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi, at the request of King Carlos V. The fortifications were intended to protect the city from raids by the Turks and North African pirates.

Portal Nou and the wall route
Portal Nou sits in the bastion and is one of the entrances to Dalt Vila. It is described as the second most important entrance after Ses Taules. The nearby Sant Jaume bastion marks the halfway point of the wall route; from Sant Pere, the wall turns east. The route continues towards Sant Joan, where there is another access point and the Museum of Modern Art is nearby.
