Körnerpark

Körnerpark is a garden in Berlin’s Neukölln district, at Schierker Str.

Körnerpark is a garden in Berlin’s Neukölln district, at Schierker Str. 8. Set below street level on the site of a former gravel pit, it offers a sheltered place to pause among formal lawns, fountains, cascades and flower beds. Follow the stairways down to the central green, then look for the orangery, now home to an art gallery with exhibitions and occasional musical events. Bring a book or picnic blanket, or stop at the café for food and drinks.

A garden below street level

Körnerpark was created on the site of a former gravel pit and completed in 1916. The park was donated by Franz Körner. Its sunken position sets the garden apart from the streets around it, and stairways lead down to the lawns and central fountain.

The design has a formal, Neo-Baroque character. Fountains and cascades, flower beds and trimmed grass shape the garden, while statues and arched walls add detail along the paths. Rhododendron bushes are also part of the planting. Restoration work has helped preserve the park’s design.

The orangery at the edge of the park now houses an art gallery. Exhibitions take place there, and occasional live music adds another reason to check what is on during your visit. The former greenhouse is set among the garden’s arches and stairways, so it is easy to include on a walk through the grounds.

You can use the park for a short break or settle in with a book on a bench. On sunny days, people also bring blankets and drinks for a picnic. The café in the gallery has food and drinks, giving you an option to stop without leaving the park.
