Teurastamo

Teurastamo, at Työpajankatu 2 in Helsinki, is a former slaughterhouse complex now used for food, events and public space. Its red-brick buildings and chimney frame a park with barbecue facilities, alongside restaurants, bars, a distillery, a coffee roastery and an ice-cream maker. From slaughterhouse to public space

The red-brick site was Helsinki’s slaughterhouse from the 1930s until the 1990s. It also housed a power plant for three decades. Today, the former industrial area has a public park and food businesses, including restaurants, bars, a distillery, a coffee roastery and an ice-cream maker.

Teurastamo’s mix of old buildings, food and urban culture gives the area a different feel from a single restaurant or market. You can stop for a meal or a drink, then spend time in the park.

Food, grills and summer events

Barbecue facilities let you bring your own ingredients and cook alongside other people using the grills. Restaurants and bars give you other options, and the site is also home to an ice-cream maker and Helsinki Distilling Company.

Summer brings more events than winter, including festivals and concerts. Short film screenings and floral displays are among the activities held at the site. Check what is on during your visit, and take care to follow nearby parking restrictions if you arrive by car.
