Pendulum Gallery is a free contemporary art space at 885 W Georgia St in downtown Vancouver, inside an office building. Its changing exhibitions bring together work by local artists, including paintings, photography and crafts, and the compact layout makes it easy to explore between other plans. Look up to see the gallery’s permanent aluminum pendulum swinging above the atrium. There is seating nearby, and a coffee shop in the building makes this a comfortable stop on a rainy day.

Art in the atrium

Pendulum Gallery

The gallery occupies the atrium of a former bank building, where temporary exhibitions bring together contemporary work in a range of forms. Past displays have included paintings, photographs and crafts. The programme changes, so check the current exhibition before setting out if you have a particular artist or medium in mind.

A permanent installation gives the space its name: a 27-metre aluminum pendulum swings overhead. Its movement and the glass above the atrium add another point of interest as you walk through the exhibits.

The space is smaller than the Vancouver Art Gallery across the street, so it fits easily into a short stop downtown. Seating near the exhibits gives you a place to pause, and a coffee shop is also in the building. The gallery is wheelchair accessible at the entrance.
