Wisteria Cottage was built in 1894 as a guest house on Ellen Browning Scripps’s estate. Her half-sister Virginia and other friends and family stayed there over the years. Scripps also lived in the cottage for a time while a new home was being built after her South Moulton Villa burned down.

In 1907, architect Irving Gill remodeled the cottage. It is the only surviving Craftsman-style cottage by Gill.
