Little Sark is the southern peninsula of Sark, joined to the main island by La Coupée, a narrow causeway with steep drops and coastal views. Cross on foot to explore quiet lanes and cliff paths, with the Venus Pool, secluded beaches and the remains of silver mines among the sights. The peninsula has a hamlet and La Sablonnerie, a historic farmhouse guesthouse. Little Sark suits a slower walk away from Sark’s village; allow time for the crossing and the coastal trails.

Walking across La Coupée

Little Sark
Little Sark

La Coupée, translated as “the cut”, connects Sark’s main island with its southern peninsula. The causeway is narrow, with steep drops on both sides. Guard rails now line the walkway, which was built by German prisoners of war in 1945. Cyclists are instructed to get off and push across.

The crossing leads into a quieter part of Sark, where lanes and coastal paths pass scattered houses and a hamlet. Follow the signed coastal route to explore the peninsula on foot.

Pools, beaches and mining remains

The Venus Pool is a natural rock pool below the cliffs, revealed at low tide. Little Sark also has secluded coastal pools and beaches, including Grande Grève. Paths lead towards Port Gorey, where the remains of silver mines mark the peninsula’s mining history.

Streams and wells have long supplied fresh water on Sark, where there is no mains water. They have also been treated as sacred places. Their role in island life is closely tied to the need to draw water from wells and boreholes.
