Drogarati Cave lies about 3 km from the village of Sami on Kefalonia, and it is one of the best-known caves on the island. Inside, stalactites hang from the ceiling and stalagmites rise from the floor, forming shapes of many sizes. The air stays around 18°C even on a hot day, so the walk underground is a welcome break from the summer heat. The visit is short, and the steps back up to the surface are the hardest part.

The rock forms take many shapes. Stalactites hang down from the roof, stalagmites rise from the floor, and some of the formations are intricate and layered in different colours.

The cave also has an underground hall with strong acoustics. The space is used for music and cultural events, so the sound carries well when it is in use.

A few stopping areas along the route give you room to look at the formations up close.
